Los Angeles Makeup Artist | Lifestyle shoot in DTLA

Los Angeles Makeup Artist | Lifestyle shoot in DTLA

Being a Los Angeles makeup artist I would like to share with you a couple of tricks and basic fixes which will help to deal with shiny or uneven skin tone, tired eyes, and unpronounced features in general. In real life, there’s nothing targeting and bouncing light off of your face, washing out your features. The human eye sees differently than the lens of a camera, which is why you look very different in the mirror versus in a picture.

Let’s start with the basics:

Mattifying, full-coverage base makeup will help your skin to look soft and even, plus it will combat shininess. Using a makeup brush will help to blend the product into a natural-looking finish.

Next up – Foundation: With a foundation brush, blend foundation evenly all over clean, moisturized skin.

Don’t forget the concealer: Apply your foundation first and then conceal the problem areas that still stand out. Use a minimal amount of concealer and blend well.

Last but not least – Translucent Powder: Lightly sweep powder over the center of the forehead, the center of the nose, and chin. Apply it as a final step, so you can tell where you need it, it will remove shine. A glow-y complexion looks great in person, but on camera, it can reflect like an oil slick. The trick is to leave the dewiness on your cheeks, but keep the middle of your face matte.

Check out my next blog articles for other on camera makeup tricks like creating natural eyebrows, eyeshadow,  eyelashes, lipstick and applying bronzer, blush, and highlighter for contouring.

Editorial makeup artist | Our fashion shoot in Shanghai

As an editorial makeup artist, I was recently able to work with Viktor Chan photographer, founder of Rimagine and Rui Cheng, Shanghai-based fashion stylist. I worked with them for the first time in 2017, and I hope to work on more fashion shoots with them. This project was shot on location around The Bund in Shanghai, China. It took us one day to finish the shoot and I really loved the results.

A little bit about Viktor Chan photographer, Rimagine is an internationally-owned and managed creative production studio, helping clients bring their brands to life. Los Angeles celebrity makeup artist | How to become one?

Los Angeles celebrity makeup artist | How to become one?

All Los Angeles celebrity makeup artist and hairstylist began careers the same way, but stand out by working with well-known clientele due to the level of work and detail the artist puts forth. Hustle every day.

First of all go to a makeup school and try to learn as much as you can before practicing on others. The principal thing that any celebrity makeup artist needs is the right training and education.

Build your book and assist smaller artists before going on to assist some of the greats in the industry. This experience led to high-profile campaigns, and larger opportunities which would eventually result in a decade-long collaboration. Keeping a portfolio of your successes will allow you to showcase your skills the way you want them showcased – with professional photos that use proper lighting techniques. Also take snapshots of your work so that you have a working diary of your career.

As a Los Angeles celebrity makeup artists and hairstylist, it’s also essential to build great relationships with both clients and brands — you never know where your next campaign could come from or how you’ll connect with your next big client. Great relationships can also lead to your very own collaboration with the brands directly. For example, I often collaborate with Anastasia Beverly Hills because I love their products and they have such a great team behind the brand.

Being a celebrity makeup artist often means being in high demand, so you can expect your schedule to be packed and traveling to become a way of life. Los Angeles celebrity makeup artists work exclusively with movie stars, political figures, artists and others in the public eye.

Los Angeles Makeup Artist | Birdies Campaign Video

Los Angeles Makeup Artist | Birdies Campaign Video

As a Los Angeles makeup artist, I’ve had the opportunity to work with Tiger House Films commercial production company team on their Birdies campaign video. I was the lead Los Angeles makeup artist, wardrobe stylist and creative coordinator on this project.

To create our model’s makeup look for this campaign I used Anastasia Beverly Hills products. Our clients were going for light smokey eyes, wavy hair and minimalistic styling. The process of creating Olga’s smoky eye was a simple 5 step process:

1) I prepped for the smokey eyes with a long-wear eye base

2) Applied a medium shadow on the lower lid up into the crease, then layer a darker medium shadow on top to build intensity.

3) Used an eye pencil and a gel liner in black color

4) Curled the lashes and added fake eyelashes for the more intensive look

I love my job as a makeup artist and I love working with a wide range of different looks and styles that my clients request. I get excited about working with luxury brands such as Birdies. I am always curious as to what I can contribute to these projects. Most of all, I delight in seeing my work used by clients in their social media posts, advertising campaigns, and websites.

Birdies are the most versatile slippers in the world. Birdies combine elevated style, luxurious comfort, and everyday versatility.

Los Angeles HMUA | Bombino aka Deran Alkheir Dance Video

Los Angeles HMUA | Bombino aka Deran Alkheir Dance Video

As a Los Angeles HMUA, I’ve had the opportunity to work with Bombino aka Deran Alkheir. In this blog article I’ll explain a couple of useful tricks on how I created the hair and makeup looks for the dancers in this production.

I spent most of my time focusing on the female dancer’s smokey eye makeup and lips because these are the only parts of the body Tuaregs show due to the limitations of their traditional clothing. Old or young, male or female, each Tuareg seems to cultivate a personal style expressed through a few simple items of fabric.

For the dancers hair styling we used head wraps called cheches whose fabric can stretch to 18 feet in length, plus flowing gowns called bubus that allow air flow while deflecting heat and blowing sand, dressing like a traditional Tuareg can at first seem a confining enterprise. We had to hide all their hair under these head wraps and adjust it during the shoot. I love my job as a Los Angeles HMUA, I always have the opportunity to work on original and artistic projects.

This music video was directed and produced by Jonathan Wing and choreography by Hillary Pearson. I had 2 dancers from Los Angeles to do hair and makeup for. We shot this video using different color lights which created a futuristic and mysterious environment in a Downtown LA studio.

About Bombino: For centuries, the desert town of Agadez has served as a converging point for the great camel caravans driven by the Tuareg that link West Africa with North Africa and the Mediterranean. Born in 1980 at a nomadic camp near this dusty outpost, the young guitarist and songwriter Omara “Bombino” Moctar was raised during an era of armed struggles for Tuareg independence and violent suppression by government forces. Bombino’s electrifying jams capture the spirit of resistance and rebellion while echoing with guitar riffs reminiscent of fellow Africans Tinariwen and Ali Farka Touré not to mention rock and blues icons such as Jimi Hendrix, John Lee Hooker and Jimmy Page.

Hairstylist and Makeup Artist | Kendall Cover Album

Hairstylist and Makeup Artist | Kendall Cover Album

As a Los Angeles hairstylist and makeup artist, I’ve had the opportunity to work with several well-known singers such as Alessia Cara, Arlissa, and Kendall Pennington. In this blog post, I would like to talk about our cover album project with Kendall Pennington. Kendall has an amazing voice, she is a 24-year-old singer/songwriter based in Los Angeles, CA.

I was hired by Now Rewind agency/production company for this cover album shoot. Ian Midura, the executive producer of Now Rewind, found me for the role of wardrobe stylist, hairstylist, and makeup artist. I had a couple of pre-production days to collect Kendall’s wardrobe. Our shooting location was in Downtown Los Angeles at a photo studio called APEX Photo Studios.

Creative agency Now Rewind’s versatile abilities can be applied to a wide array of aesthetics and messages, tailored towards a brand’s needs. The agency captures powerful photo and video content that draws the eye and showcases products or people through storytelling for multiple platforms. Here you can take a look at their agency website: https://www.now-rewind.com/

I love my job as a Los Angeles, CA hairstylist, and makeup artist and I love working with a wide range of different looks and styles that my clients request. I get excited about working with popular singers/songwriters and influencers. I am always curious as to what I can contribute to these projects.
