TV Commercial makeup artist and hairstylist | BRIOGEO

TV Commercial makeup artist and hairstylist | BRIOGEO

When I am not styling celebrity wardrobes, I also take projects as a TV Commercial makeup artist and hairstylist. I was recently hired by an advertising agency to help them do the hair makeup for one of their clients, Briogeo. Working with hair may seem easy, but it can get tricky. But this makes it even more exciting job!

I want to also say a few things about my client Briogeo. Briogeo makes hair products that are specific to your hair’s texture. You can choose a product for repair if you want to add volume to your hair, or you just want to enhance your curls. Their formulas are also free of harmful chemicals and irritants including sulfates, parabens, phthalates, silicones, DEA and synthetic color.

What I did for this project as a TV commercial makeup artist was to create before and after hair and makeup looks on camera for this production. This work was fun because I got to see the actual changes happen in real-time on the models before and after I styled them. Starting with the before look, I applied the hair conditioner and other hair products. After washing and drying the hair, I created simple looks for each model.

Being a TV Commercial makeup artist and hairstylist is an advantage when you want to get jobs especially for advertising campaigns. It is a plus when you have this set of skills combined. You already have a set of skills to complete a look from A to Z.  For me, these two jobs combine naturally because I love making people look beautiful, having multiple skills to apply to my job is a bonus.

I want to throw in some tips for those who want to work as a TV Commercial makeup artist and hairstylist. The most important skill is creativity. And for me, I think creativity is in every one of us. Anyone can be creative. A hairstylist also needs to be a good communicator. The job gets easier when you know how to talk to your clients, and how to make your model more comfortable. After years on the job, I got to learn to be more open to new ideas and new techniques. You have to know how to accept feedback and comments and improve your work in the process. And most of all, a skill that people do not mention often is that you have to be interested in personal grooming as well.

Hairstyling for TV commercials is a little bit different from styling for editorial and other photography centered campaigns. This was definitely the case for Briogeo because they are a brand of hair products and the hair was the focus in this TV commercial.

How I got the Briogeo job was through an advertising agency. Sometimes agencies source TV commercial makeup and hairstylists, especially if you already have a list of campaigns in your CV. I love getting jobs from production companies as well. I also have clients who contact me directly.

Top Makeup Artist in Los Angeles | Domyos Sport Print Campaign

Top Makeup Artist in Los Angeles | Domyos Sport Print Campaign

I was working recently on a Domyos print campaign. Luckily I have been told that I am viewed as one of the top makeup artists in Los Angeles, therefore I am often asked to take on challenging and interesting projects. We were shooting over one day in a Hollywood house and one day in Venice Beach. Domyos is a successful sports clothing brand, known for their sportswear focusing on Decathlons.

We were going for athletic-inspired beauty and sport style makeup looks during this photoshoot. The athletic minimalistic look is defined by bare-bones makeup with an emphasis on glowing skin and strong eyebrows. The hair is usually in a sleek ponytail or worn loose and wet-looking. During this sporty photo shoot, I had 8 models to take care of in terms of makeup and hair styling. I was going for minimal, fresh looks without a lot of coverage. “Fresh,” “sporty,” and “young” these were the keywords during this shoot.

As a top makeup artist in Los Angeles, I love to create minimal makeup looks. Bare-faced beauty is all about looking like you’re letting your natural skin shine through just a glowier, more even-toned version of your natural skin. To create these looks, one of my favorite types of make are moisturizers, primers, BB creams, mascara, eyeliner, lip balm, and blush.

Decathlon‘s main mission is to make sport accessible to as many people as possible. They would like to help, inspire and guide people through their sports experiences. We believe that being active and discovering new sports every day is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Decathlon has 70 sport brands under one roof.

Hair And Makeup Artist Los Angeles | Luxury Villa Branded Video

Hair And Makeup Artist Los Angeles | Luxury Villa Branded Video

As a hair and makeup artist Los Angeles I was working on a branded video shoot for a luxury villa last year. The video was produced by the BLNK production company in Shanghai, China. We were starting our shoot in the bathroom where I was creating a very natural makeup look. Later on the day, our model was wearing a cocktail dress which is when I changed her look to smokey cat eyes and red lips.

Smoky eye or cat eye makeup looks are stunning on their own, however, combining the 2 looks will create one pair of seriously smokin’ eyes. Recently we’ve been seeing more and more of this kind of eye makeup exposure on commercials, on the red carpet, fashion week, celebrity events, and on gals around the city. Smoky eyes and dark red lips can work perfectly together, our model looked stunning with this mix, combining the boldness of the classic red lip with the flirty vibe of smokey cat eyes.

The trick to getting red lips right is a great lip liner – this helps your lipstick last longer and allows you to achieve an excellent shape. The key to making red lips look sophisticated, and not messy, is careful application. ‘Red lipstick is a source of strength,’ says Poppy King, creator of Lipstick Queen. ‘You put it on and suddenly you feel more capable than you did without it.’ Debbie Harry asserted herself in the boys’. As a hair and makeup artist in Los Angeles directors, photographers, creatives often ask for this makeup look during shoots.

TV Commercial Makeup Artist in Los Angeles | Scotch Porter TVC

TV Commercial Makeup Artist in Los Angeles | Scotch Porter TVC

As a TV commercial makeup artist in Los Angeles, I was hired by HCI advertising last year for their Scotch Porter TV Commercial shoot. We had a night shoot in a butcher store in Hollywood. I had about 25 male actors/models to do makeup for. It was a very straightforward shoot because we were going for camera-ready looks.

Being camera-ready means the products and techniques used to achieve the overall look are compatible with high quality cameras that photographers and videographers use. That means you will be HD compatible and as technology advances, makeup products and techniques advance as well. When I work as a TV commercial makeup artist in Los Angeles I always prepare my makeup kit with the essential products.

Camera-ready makeup isn’t concerning heavy coverage or too bright colors. It’s about understanding what the camera is going to see. It’s about proper tone, accentuation. Clean, moisturized skin is that the ideal palette to work on. The camera can pick up on dry or excessively oily skin very easily. Television cameras and bright lights will alter your appearance drastically and there’s no way around it makeup is essential. A primer will ensure that your foundation doesn’t sink into your skin.

Scotch Porter is more than just a brand; it’s a call to action. When Calvin Quallis left the comfort of his cushy desk job last year to pursue his dream of creating the ultimate men’s grooming line, he did so with the intent of making the most stylishly accessible products in the game. Scotch Porter is for the modern day man who wants to look his best at all times. Your first impression is your last impression, and while you rock your distressed denim, cashmere sweater and leather bag or even your suit and tie, we’ve got you covered on the rest. From head to toe.

Professional Makeup Artist in LA | Hollywood Shine Beauty Editorial

Professional Makeup Artist in LA | Hollywood Shine Beauty Editorial

As a professional makeup artist in LA, I was working with fashion model/influencer Kenzo Lauren on an editorial beauty shoot in Los Angeles. The fashion shoot entitled Hollywood Shine has been published by Dear Velvet on their online blog. We found Kenzo while I was looking for fashion models in the Los Angeles area. We arranged this photoshoot in several locations in Hollywood, Venice and Santa Monica, launching our first fashion photo collaboration.

Most importantly we were going for a high-end look on this shoot, inspired by the Oscars. From gold makeup to sparkling nails, the looks exuded Hollywood glamour. I managed Kenzo’s makeup and styling for this editorial. Eye makeup speaks volumes about your style and when done right, it has the power to be immensely transformative. So it did for Kenzo. I chose matching cocktail dresses to complete her look for this shoot.

As a makeup artist in LA, I always arrive at fashion shoots with a fully equipped kit of high-quality cosmetics in a wide variety of colors. Highlighter is the ultimate photo-ready secret. In this editorial, I used gold and silver glitter as well for eye shadow. A little glitter liner is a super fun way to add some sparkle to your look.

Dear Velvet is a diary of style, creativity, and wanderlust. We first connected in 2015 with the DV team and since then, they have published several amazing articles about my work as a professional makeup artist in LA.

From the founder of DV: “Art and fashion, writing, photography and sheer curiosity keep me up late, playing in the digital world and on the road in the real one.”

Fashion Stylist in Los Angeles | Glamour Sales Commercial

Fashion Stylist in Los Angeles | Glamour Sales Commercial

One of my first commercials as fashion stylist was for Glamour Sales back in 2014 in Shanghai, China. The project was entitled “Glam Dog”, and it’s spokesdog became the brand’s community manager on Weibo, WeChat, and other digital platforms for Glamour Sales. The spokesdog was the star of the “Glam Dog Fashion Show” organized by Fred & Farid Shanghai at the Bund in Shanghai, and it went viral with 2.65 million views.

This was one of my most exciting shoots when I started to work in the advertising industry as a fashion stylist. I had 2 dogs to style so had to play very well with the brand accessories and create costumes for the dogs.

A small blurb from Jing Daily states; Shanghai has found its next big thing, and it struts on four legs and has a tail. As fashion e-commerce brands race to find the sexiest stars to be the face of their brand, Fred & Farid Shanghai, a creative agency, found the perfect solution for online luxury flash sale company Glamour Sales’ need for a glamorous ambassador—they found a “spokesdog.”

In 2014 the Fred & Farid agency received a winning award as well from the Webby Awards  for this commercial.

Professional Makeup Artist Based In Los Angeles | Metropolis

Professional Makeup Artist Based In Los Angeles | Metropolis

This fashion commercial production was a collaboration that came together with Shanghai based model Jasin Chang, Director / Cinematographer Jason Kent Carpenter and me as coordiantor and professional makeup artist based in Los Angeles. The urban street wear aesthetic of this fashion project mixes an industrial grunge soundtrack with men’s high fashion.

Jason Operated the camera while I coordinated and did the hair and makeup as well as the styling for the shoot. The team chose the early morning to capture the light across the expansive concrete landscape.

The location we chose, the iconic Los Angeles River, has been the location for countless feature films, fashion commercial productions, music videos and branded content. Most notably, this L.A. River location was the scene for the hot rod drag race in the 1978 movie Grease, starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton John.

Our model Jasin, started off doing runways and now also shoots campaigns, ads and lookbooks. He has an interest in acting and over the summer landed a small role in a Luc Besson produced feature film. Besides fashion, Jasin also works in television commercials and commercial print or digital ads for major labels and brands. As a model he has walked major runways such as in Milan Fashion Week.

Instagram Fashion Makeup Artist Based In Los Angeles I Young Rebels

Instagram Fashion Makeup Artist Based In Los Angeles | Young Rebels

As an Instagram fashion makeup artist based in Los Angeles, I constantly get approached with interesting concepts. This fashion brand film production was created as a result of inspiration to create imagery of wild rebellious American youth in urban-industrial Los Angeles.

Tiger House Films teamed with fashion designer Emily Daccarett. Our fashion film and commercial production team was able to execute an idea derived from an edgy conceptual approach. Our goal was to ultimately showcase her designs and accessories while telling the story of the aftermath of a jewelry store robbery by our by two young new recruits to a gang of hardened thieves.

Shot in a Chinatown warehouse, the Tiger House Films production team fully utilized the space, adding production design and smoke effects to create a moody atmosphere inside the location. Our main models for this production were Katherine Rodriguez and Eugene Huriev. The stunt performer / actor was Rage Stewart.

All of our models made this production memorable, their makeup had to match the edgy concept, this shoot definitely highlighted my creativity as an Instagram fashion makeup artist based in Los Angeles. It was the Tiger House Films production team’s first time to work with Katherine and Eugene and they were both incredible to collaborate with on this fashion brand video production. Rage is a veteran biker with the ability to play in great character as well as perform burnouts on his motorcycle.

About the fashion designer : ” Emily Daccarett is based in Los Angeles.
