Celebrity Makeup Artist | LANY x Julia Michaels OKAY Music Video

Celebrity Makeup Artist | LANY x Julia Michaels OKAY Music Video

As a celebrity makeup artist , I’ve had the opportunity to work with LANY x Julia Michaels on their OKAY music video. I was the lead makeup artist and hair stylist on this project.

LANY is an American indie pop band from Los Angeles, formed in 2014. The band consists of Paul Jason Klein, Charles Leslie “Les” Priest, and Jake Clifford Goss. Julia Carin Cavazos, known professionally as Julia Michaels, is an American singer and songwriter from Davenport, Iowa.

The Los Angeles alt-pop band LANY has teamed up with superstar Julia Michaels for its latest single called OKAY. The tune is surprisingly catchy and light for such a heavy topic, but the rhythmic beat adds to the feeling of, yes, maybe I will be okay amidst the darkness.

This music video production for LANY was shot in Venice Beach and in Moonlight Rollerway with an overnight production schedule. With my makeup artist assistant, Mya, we had to stay mobile during the entire shoot. Over the past several years, I’ve been able to polish my skills as a Los Angeles celebrity makeup artist. I’ve managed to gain a vast range of experience, worked with many different clients, and allowing my ambition and energy to assist in the creative process and provide a satisfying result.

I had an wonderful time working with Univeral Music Group, Julia Michaels and LANY‘s team as a celebrity makeup artist, I hope to create a long lasting relationship with them for the future.

Los Angeles Makeup Artist | Lifestyle shoot in DTLA

Los Angeles Makeup Artist | Lifestyle shoot in DTLA

Being a Los Angeles makeup artist I would like to share with you a couple of tricks and basic fixes which will help to deal with shiny or uneven skin tone, tired eyes, and unpronounced features in general. In real life, there’s nothing targeting and bouncing light off of your face, washing out your features. The human eye sees differently than the lens of a camera, which is why you look very different in the mirror versus in a picture.

Let’s start with the basics:

Mattifying, full-coverage base makeup will help your skin to look soft and even, plus it will combat shininess. Using a makeup brush will help to blend the product into a natural-looking finish.

Next up – Foundation: With a foundation brush, blend foundation evenly all over clean, moisturized skin.

Don’t forget the concealer: Apply your foundation first and then conceal the problem areas that still stand out. Use a minimal amount of concealer and blend well.

Last but not least – Translucent Powder: Lightly sweep powder over the center of the forehead, the center of the nose, and chin. Apply it as a final step, so you can tell where you need it, it will remove shine. A glow-y complexion looks great in person, but on camera, it can reflect like an oil slick. The trick is to leave the dewiness on your cheeks, but keep the middle of your face matte.

Check out my next blog articles for other on camera makeup tricks like creating natural eyebrows, eyeshadow,  eyelashes, lipstick and applying bronzer, blush, and highlighter for contouring.

Los Angeles celebrity makeup artist | How to become one?

Los Angeles celebrity makeup artist | How to become one?

All Los Angeles celebrity makeup artist and hairstylist began careers the same way, but stand out by working with well-known clientele due to the level of work and detail the artist puts forth. Hustle every day.

First of all go to a makeup school and try to learn as much as you can before practicing on others. The principal thing that any celebrity makeup artist needs is the right training and education.

Build your book and assist smaller artists before going on to assist some of the greats in the industry. This experience led to high-profile campaigns, and larger opportunities which would eventually result in a decade-long collaboration. Keeping a portfolio of your successes will allow you to showcase your skills the way you want them showcased – with professional photos that use proper lighting techniques. Also take snapshots of your work so that you have a working diary of your career.

As a Los Angeles celebrity makeup artists and hairstylist, it’s also essential to build great relationships with both clients and brands — you never know where your next campaign could come from or how you’ll connect with your next big client. Great relationships can also lead to your very own collaboration with the brands directly. For example, I often collaborate with Anastasia Beverly Hills because I love their products and they have such a great team behind the brand.

Being a celebrity makeup artist often means being in high demand, so you can expect your schedule to be packed and traveling to become a way of life. Los Angeles celebrity makeup artists work exclusively with movie stars, political figures, artists and others in the public eye.

Professional Makeup Artist Based In Los Angeles | Metropolis

Professional Makeup Artist Based In Los Angeles | Metropolis

This fashion commercial production was a collaboration that came together with Shanghai based model Jasin Chang, Director / Cinematographer Jason Kent Carpenter and me as coordiantor and professional makeup artist based in Los Angeles. The urban street wear aesthetic of this fashion project mixes an industrial grunge soundtrack with men’s high fashion.

Jason Operated the camera while I coordinated and did the hair and makeup as well as the styling for the shoot. The team chose the early morning to capture the light across the expansive concrete landscape.

The location we chose, the iconic Los Angeles River, has been the location for countless feature films, fashion commercial productions, music videos and branded content. Most notably, this L.A. River location was the scene for the hot rod drag race in the 1978 movie Grease, starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton John.

Our model Jasin, started off doing runways and now also shoots campaigns, ads and lookbooks. He has an interest in acting and over the summer landed a small role in a Luc Besson produced feature film. Besides fashion, Jasin also works in television commercials and commercial print or digital ads for major labels and brands. As a model he has walked major runways such as in Milan Fashion Week.

Instagram Fashion Makeup Artist Based In Los Angeles I Young Rebels

Instagram Fashion Makeup Artist Based In Los Angeles | Young Rebels

As an Instagram fashion makeup artist based in Los Angeles, I constantly get approached with interesting concepts. This fashion brand film production was created as a result of inspiration to create imagery of wild rebellious American youth in urban-industrial Los Angeles.

Tiger House Films teamed with fashion designer Emily Daccarett. Our fashion film and commercial production team was able to execute an idea derived from an edgy conceptual approach. Our goal was to ultimately showcase her designs and accessories while telling the story of the aftermath of a jewelry store robbery by our by two young new recruits to a gang of hardened thieves.

Shot in a Chinatown warehouse, the Tiger House Films production team fully utilized the space, adding production design and smoke effects to create a moody atmosphere inside the location. Our main models for this production were Katherine Rodriguez and Eugene Huriev. The stunt performer / actor was Rage Stewart.

All of our models made this production memorable, their makeup had to match the edgy concept, this shoot definitely highlighted my creativity as an Instagram fashion makeup artist based in Los Angeles. It was the Tiger House Films production team’s first time to work with Katherine and Eugene and they were both incredible to collaborate with on this fashion brand video production. Rage is a veteran biker with the ability to play in great character as well as perform burnouts on his motorcycle.

About the fashion designer : ” Emily Daccarett is based in Los Angeles. Where the designer can be found working on her craft, from designing collections, draping, sewing painting on leather, molding and sculpting accessories to recording music. ” Visit Emily Daccarett’s website for more of her styles and collections here: http://www.emilydaccarett.com/

Los Angeles Makeup Artist Collaboration | LXMI

Los Angeles Makeup Artist Collaboration | LXMI

As a Los Angeles fashion makeup artist, my most important rule is taking care of your skin. This is one of the reasons why we collaborated with LXMI. As a makeup artist, I focus on skincare first. I absolutely love to use LXMI because this luxury skincare brand especially pops with organic and natural products. Anyone with sensitive skin will benefit from the natural ingredients this company uses in all of its product lines. For this reason, many of my clients ask for this brand by name.

Our collaboration with LXMI started when I reached out to the brand through their website and requested their support of my work as a Los Angeles fashion and commercial makeup artist. Through that connection, they sent me their most current products that I love to use. during the commercial shoots I love to use their Nilotica Goddess Glow Hydrating Illuminator, Pure Nilotica Hand & Body Melt Organic and Unrefined Nilotica Reserve creams.

Each of these products has its strong points including keeping the skin hydrated and glowing. Proper skincare is really important because our skin is the largest barrier against infection that we have.

Keeping our skin healthy and moist helps keep this barrier strong. Having clean and clear skin can help boost your confidence and keep you looking your best! Your face is the first part of you others see when they meet you, so go forward with your best face forward. A daily skincare routine can help you do exactly this. LXMI is the best luxury skincare solution I can suggest to anyone as a Los Angeles makeup artist and beauty influencer.
