Beauty Makeup Artist | Birdies Campaign Video Makeup Tips

Beauty Makeup Artist | Birdies Campaign Video Makeup Tips

As a Los Angeles beauty makeup artist, I’ve had the opportunity to work with the Tiger House Films production company team on their Birdies slippers campaign video. I was the lead beauty makeup artist, a creative coordinator and wardrobe stylist on this project. We were shooting for 2 days in Los Angeles.

I want to share some of the key practices related to being a makeup artist. Some of these practices have really helped me to become excellent at my job.

  1. Wash your face, tone the skin and apply moisturizer
  2. Apply primer, you can also mix it with your foundation
  3. Conceal dark circles and blemishes
  4. Apply foundation evenly matching to your skin tone
  5. Contour and highlight your face
  6. Choose your eyeshadow palette
  7. Line and define the eyes, use liquid or pencil eyeliner
  8. Use a natural lipstick

The third of our three fashion commercial productions with high-end San Francisco based company Birdies Slippers, this “everyday girl” themed video was shot in Los Angeles with the Tiger House Films commercial production team. Known for being Meghan Markle’s favorite slippers brand, this spot was released in 2019.

I had a great time working with Birdies and Tiger House Films commercial production company as a Los Angeles beauty makeup artist and hope to create a lasting business relationship with them for the future.

Los Angeles Wardrobe Stylist | Birdies Evergreen Video

Los Angeles Wardrobe Stylist | Birdies Evergreen Video

I would like to share a great experience I had working as a Los Angeles wardrobe stylist with Tiger House Films commercial production company. I have already worked with THF on numerous projects, as a wardrobe stylist, makeup artist or creative coordinator.

As a Los Angeles wardrobe stylist, I’ve had the opportunity to work with Birdies slippers. In this blog article, I would like to share with you a couple of useful tricks and tips on how I created the styling looks for our model, Olga for this campaign video.

1) Fit is incredibly important. Olga has a perfect shape and everything I bought for this video shooting fit to her incredibly well. I used a lot of black and white, high quality clothes. Ultimately, I really believe you should just wear what you love and what makes you feel happy.

2) I love incorporating silk and classic pieces into my styling and collection. There’s nothing cooler to me than a delicate top worn with stiff vintage jeans and Birdies flats for a day out.

3) Make sure on every take the clothes, shoes fit perfectly, specially when you have multiple models. On the monitor you can watch the video at the same time when the cinematographer is shooting so you can make sure everything looks exactly the way you want it. You need to check the details and at the same time the full image as well.

I’m a wardrobe stylist and these Birdies shoes are something I could wear all day on my feet when I’m on set.

Los Angeles HMUA | Bombino aka Deran Alkheir Dance Video

Los Angeles HMUA | Bombino aka Deran Alkheir Dance Video

As a Los Angeles HMUA, I’ve had the opportunity to work with Bombino aka Deran Alkheir. In this blog article I’ll explain a couple of useful tricks on how I created the hair and makeup looks for the dancers in this production.

I spent most of my time focusing on the female dancer’s smokey eye makeup and lips because these are the only parts of the body Tuaregs show due to the limitations of their traditional clothing. Old or young, male or female, each Tuareg seems to cultivate a personal style expressed through a few simple items of fabric.

For the dancers hair styling we used head wraps called cheches whose fabric can stretch to 18 feet in length, plus flowing gowns called bubus that allow air flow while deflecting heat and blowing sand, dressing like a traditional Tuareg can at first seem a confining enterprise. We had to hide all their hair under these head wraps and adjust it during the shoot. I love my job as a Los Angeles HMUA, I always have the opportunity to work on original and artistic projects.

This music video was directed and produced by Jonathan Wing and choreography by Hillary Pearson. I had 2 dancers from Los Angeles to do hair and makeup for. We shot this video using different color lights which created a futuristic and mysterious environment in a Downtown LA studio.

About Bombino: For centuries, the desert town of Agadez has served as a converging point for the great camel caravans driven by the Tuareg that link West Africa with North Africa and the Mediterranean. Born in 1980 at a nomadic camp near this dusty outpost, the young guitarist and songwriter Omara “Bombino” Moctar was raised during an era of armed struggles for Tuareg independence and violent suppression by government forces. Bombino’s electrifying jams capture the spirit of resistance and rebellion while echoing with guitar riffs reminiscent of fellow Africans Tinariwen and Ali Farka Touré not to mention rock and blues icons such as Jimi Hendrix, John Lee Hooker and Jimmy Page.

As a Los Angeles hairstylist and makeup artist, I’ve had the opportunity to work with several well-known singers such as Alessia Cara, Arlissa, and Kendall Pennington. In this blog post, I would like to talk about our cover album project with Kendall Pennington. Kendall has an amazing voice, she is a 24-year-old singer/songwriter based in Los Angeles, CA.

I was hired by Now Rewind agency/production company for this cover album shoot. Ian Midura, the executive producer of Now Rewind, found me for the role of wardrobe stylist, hairstylist, and makeup artist. I had a couple of pre-production days to collect Kendall’s wardrobe. Our shooting location was in Downtown Los Angeles at a photo studio called APEX Photo Studios.

Creative agency Now Rewind’s versatile abilities can be applied to a wide array of aesthetics and messages, tailored towards a brand’s needs. The agency captures powerful photo and video content that draws the eye and showcases products or people through storytelling for multiple platforms. Los Angeles Makeup Artist | Vitamin T Video Shoot

Los Angeles Makeup Artist | Vitamin T Video Shoot

As a Los Angeles makeup artist, I’ve had the opportunity to work with Vitamin T talent agency. I worked closely as a makeup artist with their video production team to understand their business needs. I was in charge of the styling and hair-makeup department. Camera-ready makeup is a very basic, light makeup which means very natural and bare skin finish, not too shiny and not too mat.

The products I used to create our main talent’s camera-ready makeup:

1) Estee Lauder Liquid foundation

2) Liquid cushion compact foundation

3) Teint miracle perfecting concealer pen

4) Antonym Cosmetics Powder foundation

5) Bronzer for contouring

6) Anastasia Beverly Hills Blush

7) Anastasia Beverly Hills brow palette, eyeshadows and mascara

8) Lipstick

Working as a Los Angeles makeup artist I love to create beauty looks for my clients. Especially I liked working with Vitamin T team because they give me complete creative freedom in terms of makeup and styling. We were shooting this promotional video for 2 days in their corporate office location in Los Angeles, CA.

Vitamin T is a talent agency for digital creatives and the design-minded companies who love them. Vitamin T partner with clients and talent and take the time to make sure they are connecting people who can help one another. They know that a great match goes beyond a skill search.

Over the past several years, I’ve been able to polish my skills as a makeup artist. I’ve managed to gain a vast range of experience, worked with many different clients, and allowing my ambition and energy to assist in the creative process and provide a satisfying result.

Los Angeles Hairstylist | TILTA Commercial

Los Angeles Hairstylist | TILTA Commercial

As a Los Angeles hairstylist, I’ve had the opportunity to work with several well-known clients with brands such as Converse, Pinterest, Forever21, ANTA, MONTBLANC, Alibaba, Etam, Oppo, just to name a few. My experience in photo shooting, creative directory tasks, and commercial shoots led me to a recent gig I had with Overturn Media and our client, TILTA.

The client, TILTA, is a digital company founded in 2008 dedicated to creating high-resolution cameras. TILTA wanted to introduce its new camera KO filter in the digital market. I had got the opportunity to present my creativity as a Los Angeles hairstylist because she is in the list of top hair and makeup artists in Los Angeles.  In this commercial, I worked with two professional dancers. The challenge for me was to style the hair and makeup in a way that was classy and simple, but elegant, while also taking into account the corresponding costumes, the location of the shoot, and the color coordination of TILTA’s new KO camera filter.

For this project, Overturn wanted someone who can enhance the features of the commercial, and they considered me among the list of top hair and makeup artists of Los Angeles. Overturn is a versatile company consisting of “storytellers who help brands build a narrative and create a unique experience for their consumers with a focus on design principles, problem-solving and creative storytelling”.

Over the past several years, I’ve been able to polish my skills as a Los Angeles hairstylist. I’ve managed to gain a vast range of experience, worked with many different celebrities, and allowing my ambition and creative energy to assist in the creative process and provide a satisfying result.

Professional Makeup Artist | Fundamental Coast

Professional Makeup Artist | Fundamental Coast

As a professional makeup artist, I was recently able to work with Fundamental Coast. I worked with them for the first time last year, and I hope to work on more campaigns with them. This project was shot on location around Manhattan Beach in Los Angeles. It took us two days to finish the shoot and I really loved the results.

Fundamental Coast’s brand is centered on the coastal culture including surfing, skating, action sports, etc. Most of their products reflect the lifestyle of their area. It was fun to be part of a shoot in such a good location. When doing makeup for lifestyle pictures it is essential to get to know the brand and to work around what the brand stands for.

Fundamental Coast is a lifestyle brand and as such, they wanted to create lifestyle looks. Doing makeup for lifestyle looks has become an easy job to do for me. They have a pretty relaxed yet fun feel in their products. The kind of products that you can use indoors and most especially for outdoor activities. Most of their apparel is for weekend escapades and fun trips. It was tricky at first to capture what a lifestyle look is, because it needs a degree of discipline to do the research on what matches a particular lifestyle brand, but over time if you are an experienced makeup artist, you master the techniques.

I want to share some of the practices related to being a professional makeup artist. Some of these practices have really helped me to become excellent at my job.

  1. Practice makes perfect

Makeup is also artistry, and personally, I practice a lot in order to achieve the level of skill I currently have. Despite my current experience, I still practice every day. Learning by experience will help you perfect your skill. It is worth noting how effective it is to learn from the experts as well.

2. Experiment and just go for it.

Most successful makeup artists have their own makeup style or expertise. I think if you like to experiment with makeup, then you will eventually get distinct results. There are a lot of makeup artists experimenting and going all out on creativity which push the boundaries of our industry.

  1. Stay updated with the latest trends

This is extremely important in my case. Having to work with many brands, I am expected to know what is trending. I must be current with the styles that are popular in the moment. Having basic knowledge will only get you far, but keeping your mind on trends and demands will keep you ahead of the game.

I am enjoying my job as a professional makeup artist and I love working with a wide range of looks and stlyes that my clients request. I get excited about working with brands and about what I can contribute to their project. Most of all, I love the delight of seeing my work used by clients in some of their major campaigns.

TV Commercial makeup artist and hairstylist | BRIOGEO

TV Commercial makeup artist and hairstylist | BRIOGEO

When I am not styling celebrity wardrobes, I also take projects as a TV Commercial makeup artist and hairstylist. I was recently hired by an advertising agency to help them do the hair makeup for one of their clients, Briogeo. Working with hair may seem easy, but it can get tricky. But this makes it even more exciting job!

I want to also say a few things about my client Briogeo. Briogeo makes hair products that are specific to your hair’s texture. You can choose a product for repair if you want to add volume to your hair, or you just want to enhance your curls. Their formulas are also free of harmful chemicals and irritants including sulfates, parabens, phthalates, silicones, DEA and synthetic color.

What I did for this project as a TV commercial makeup artist was to create before and after hair and makeup looks on camera for this production. This work was fun because I got to see the actual changes happen in real-time on the models before and after I styled them. Starting with the before look, I applied the hair conditioner and other hair products. After washing and drying the hair, I created simple looks for each model.

Being a TV Commercial makeup artist and hairstylist is an advantage when you want to get jobs especially for advertising campaigns. It is a plus when you have this set of skills combined. You already have a set of skills to complete a look from A to Z.  For me, these two jobs combine naturally because I love making people look beautiful, having multiple skills to apply to my job is a bonus.

I want to throw in some tips for those who want to work as a TV Commercial makeup artist and hairstylist. The most important skill is creativity. And for me, I think creativity is in every one of us. Anyone can be creative. A hairstylist also needs to be a good communicator. The job gets easier when you know how to talk to your clients, and how to make your model more comfortable. After years on the job, I got to learn to be more open to new ideas and new techniques. You have to know how to accept feedback and comments and improve your work in the process. And most of all, a skill that people do not mention often is that you have to be interested in personal grooming as well.

Hairstyling for TV commercials is a little bit different from styling for editorial and other photography centered campaigns. This was definitely the case for Briogeo because they are a brand of hair products and the hair was the focus in this TV commercial.

How I got the Briogeo job was through an advertising agency. Sometimes agencies source TV commercial makeup and hairstylists, especially if you already have a list of campaigns in your CV. I love getting jobs from production companies as well. I also have clients who contact me directly.
