Shoutout LA Interview | Celebrity Stylist and Makeup Artist

Shoutout LA Interview | Celebrity Stylist and Makeup Artist

As a celebrity stylist and makeup artist in Los Angeles, I had the luck of getting interviewed by Shoutout LA Magazine.

About Shoutout LA: Shoutout LA is part of the Los Angeles based Voyage Group of Magazines and our flagship publication, VoyageLA was started in 2015.  Since then they’ve grown to almost a dozen cities, generated millions of page views and helped tens of thousands of entrepreneurs and creatives share their stories. Along the way they’ve built a vibrant and highly engaged community and Shoutout is about giving that community an opportunity to go beyond stories.  By focusing on topics that are relevant to almost everyone we hope to inspire important conversations within the community and do so in way that puts artists, creatives and local businesses at the center of these conversations.

One of my favorite question from this conversation was the following:

“What was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The motivation behind starting my own business was originally my passion to create interesting content and media. I had the drive to help models and actors look their best in front of the camera, boosting their confidence in their professions. I love to collaborate with other like minded creatives and business owners to make their visions come to life.”

Professional Makeup Artist in Los Angeles | Beautycon LA Event

Professional Makeup Artist in Los Angeles | Beautycon LA Event

As a professional makeup artist in Los Angeles, I attended at the 2019 Beautycon LA event in Downtown Los Angeles, California. It is one of many events at the forefront of what’s known as experiential retail, a delicate dance of marketing, entertainment, and shopping designed to attract consumers. As much as I love shopping for beauty and fashion products I also like to try them and talk about the brands with the creators so it is a perfect combination for me.

Beautycon is an annual beauty festival where attendees can shop products from the biggest makeup, skincare, hair, and nail brands via 150+ booths and activations. Fans can also attend panels that feature beauty’s most influential celebrities, content creators, and entrepreneurs, along with special performances. The event takes place throughout the year in Los Angeles, New York City and Tokyo.

It is described as a fashion and beauty summit for the internet’s most influential and everyone who’s obsessed with them. It is your favorite beauty gurus and YouTubers and all that jazz in one place. You can visit the influencers, ask them questions, learn about amazing beauty products, shop, and watch performances. Being a professional makeup artist it is very important to create a personal connection between you and the brands you are working with.

Being a celebrity makeup artist I have to be always up to date and follow the trend so I can recommend to my clients the best beauty and fashion products that is availble on the market.

I had an excellent time attending the Beautycon LA event as a professional makeup artist in Los Angeles, I hope to go to more beauty events like these in the future.

Los Angeles Beauty Makeup Artist | Face Genius Commercial

Los Angeles Beauty Makeup Artist | Face Genius Commercial

Being a Los Angeles beauty makeup artist, I mostly work on fashion shoots, commercials, and branded videos. I got a chance a couple of months ago to work with Anarchy production company for a Face Genius commercial spot. Anarchy production was contacted by Face Genius to produce several social media videos.

I styled and did hair and make on 3 talents during this commercial production. The wardrobe direction given from the client and director was casual so I brought many options from H&M and Uniqlo stores. For hair and makeup styles, we decided to go with camera-ready, natural looks.

About Face Genius: FaceGenius is the connected skin advisor that gives you the best products for your skin when you need them. The SkinScanner™ tool clips on to your smartphone and turns it into a high powered dermascope for the most accurate and detailed skin analysis available. Anarchy is owned and operated by Andreas Attai. It serves as a platform for his creative expeditions. Through Anarchy he has worked on narrative films, commercial, and music video content. As a hairstylist – makeup artist it was my second time working with Anarchy’s team.

I had a great time working with Anarchy and Face Genius‘s team as a Los Angeles makeup artist and hope to create a lasting business relationship with them for the future.

Celebrity Makeup Artist Los Angeles | Essentia Billboard

Celebrity Makeup Artist Los Angeles | Essentia Billboard

Being a celebrity makeup artist Los Angeles has some totally fun perks. The other day I was at the Grove, and the advertisement I worked on appeared on the billboard! This is one of the projects I had fun working on, and what I am proud of, is that this particular campaign I did with Essentia called the Overachievers Nation was marketed heavily throughout the United States. We shot with the celebrity singer and songwriter, Arlissa, who flew all the way from London. She looked gorgeous in the advertisement.

My goal is to keep the consistent work I am getting as a celebrity stylist and makeup artist in Los Angeles who works with video shoots for big brands. For this campaign, I worked with STORIES International which is a trusted agency and commercial production company from Los Angeles. They have handled campaigns for well-known companies such as Sony, Subaru, KFC, IKEA, etc. STORIES International has a long list of clients on its website. The Overachievers Nations is directed by the talented Austin Will, who has done works for Puma, Nike, and other active lifestyle-related campaigns.

The campaign took us one day to shoot. We did the production at Hotel Cafe which is a Hollywood club. I was excited to get my hands on the job to shoot on that day. I did the celebrity stylist tasks first and we started choosing pieces for Arlissa’s wardrobe. She was fun to style because she got the unique, fit and gorgeous look perfect for the Essentia brand.

After taking care of her wardrobe, we immediately proceeded to Arlissa’s makeup. For her makeup, we chose the natural look. The concept of the video is centered on what she does, that is why we want her to look as natural and comfortable as she regularly does. I really liked working on the look because she seemed effortlessly stunning in the photos, especially when I saw the ad on the billboard.

The advertisement was also shown on different platforms all over the United States. It was seen in print, online and billboard, including that one in the premium location at the Grove, Los Angeles. I always feel delighted when I  see a campaign I worked on, especially this Overachievers Nation project. Essentia was a great company to work with. It was a pleasure to complete this beautiful advertisement. If you want to have a peek of the advertisement, you can also see the video on their website.

Essentia currently provides smooth tasting alkaline bottled water and has been popular with athletes who play physically demanding sports or go through lots of energy and demanding tasks every day. These people need to replenish and refresh after their arduous workouts. Arlissa was indeed a perfect person for this ad as she performs and burns through energy very quickly on stage.

Overall, it was a memorable experience and seeing the billboard made me realize how rewarding it is to be a celebrity stylist or celebrity makeup artist. Los Angeles is a great place for this profession. You get to meet amazing people and brands, and you get to see your work shown and admired by strangers as well as the general public.

Top Makeup Artist in Los Angeles | Domyos Sport Print Campaign

Top Makeup Artist in Los Angeles | Domyos Sport Print Campaign

I was working recently on a Domyos print campaign. Luckily I have been told that I am viewed as one of the top makeup artists in Los Angeles, therefore I am often asked to take on challenging and interesting projects. We were shooting over one day in a Hollywood house and one day in Venice Beach. Domyos is a successful sports clothing brand, known for their sportswear focusing on Decathlons.

We were going for athletic-inspired beauty and sport style makeup looks during this photoshoot. The athletic minimalistic look is defined by bare-bones makeup with an emphasis on glowing skin and strong eyebrows. The hair is usually in a sleek ponytail or worn loose and wet-looking. During this sporty photo shoot, I had 8 models to take care of in terms of makeup and hair styling. I was going for minimal, fresh looks without a lot of coverage. “Fresh,” “sporty,” and “young” these were the keywords during this shoot.

As a top makeup artist in Los Angeles, I love to create minimal makeup looks. Bare-faced beauty is all about looking like you’re letting your natural skin shine through just a glowier, more even-toned version of your natural skin. To create these looks, one of my favorite types of make are moisturizers, primers, BB creams, mascara, eyeliner, lip balm, and blush.

Decathlon‘s main mission is to make sport accessible to as many people as possible. They would like to help, inspire and guide people through their sports experiences. We believe that being active and discovering new sports every day is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Decathlon has 70 sport brands under one roof.

Personal Stylist and Makeup Artist in LA | Salvation Mountain Photoshoot

Personal Stylist and Makeup Artist in LA | Salvation Mountain Photoshoot

As a personal stylist and makeup artist in LA I was working with wedding, lifestyle and portrait photographer Radostina Boseva ( Joy ). Joy’s client, Viki  asked her to arrange a shoot for her 18th birthday. Viki then contacted me to take care of her personal wardrobe styling and hair-makeup during our one day photoshoot.

We were shooting on both film and digital, Joy stated: I love to shoot with both film (yeah, the old school film rolls) and digital. The images that you will see here are primarily shoot on film, because I love the colors and the dreamy look.

As a personal stylist and makeup artist in LA, I love to travel for work to beautiful places. For this photo shoot, our location was Salvation Mountain, Salvation Mountain is a hillside visionary environment created by local resident Leonard Knight in the California Desert area of Imperial County, north of Calipatria, northeast of Niland near Slab City, and several miles from the Salton Sea.

From Radostina Boseva about our shoot: One of the most interesting, challenging and fun photoshoots that I did last year, actually happened at the very end on December 30. I flew down to Los Angeles from San Francisco and together with the fantastic fashion stylist and makeup artist Luca Buzas we drove down all the way to Salvation Mountain for this colorful and fun birthday photoshoot. The entire session was photographed on film and I think only film could preserve all those beautiful colors in the California desert.

Hair And Makeup Artist Los Angeles | Luxury Villa Branded Video

Hair And Makeup Artist Los Angeles | Luxury Villa Branded Video

As a hair and makeup artist Los Angeles I was working on a branded video shoot for a luxury villa last year. The video was produced by the BLNK production company in Shanghai, China. We were starting our shoot in the bathroom where I was creating a very natural makeup look. Later on the day, our model was wearing a cocktail dress which is when I changed her look to smokey cat eyes and red lips.

Smoky eye or cat eye makeup looks are stunning on their own, however, combining the 2 looks will create one pair of seriously smokin’ eyes. Recently we’ve been seeing more and more of this kind of eye makeup exposure on commercials, on the red carpet, fashion week, celebrity events, and on gals around the city. Smoky eyes and dark red lips can work perfectly together, our model looked stunning with this mix, combining the boldness of the classic red lip with the flirty vibe of smokey cat eyes.

The trick to getting red lips right is a great lip liner – this helps your lipstick last longer and allows you to achieve an excellent shape. The key to making red lips look sophisticated, and not messy, is careful application. ‘Red lipstick is a source of strength,’ says Poppy King, creator of Lipstick Queen. ‘You put it on and suddenly you feel more capable than you did without it.’ Debbie Harry asserted herself in the boys’. As a hair and makeup artist in Los Angeles directors, photographers, creatives often ask for this makeup look during shoots.

TV Commercial Makeup Artist in Los Angeles | Scotch Porter TVC

TV Commercial Makeup Artist in Los Angeles | Scotch Porter TVC

As a TV commercial makeup artist in Los Angeles, I was hired by HCI advertising last year for their Scotch Porter TV Commercial shoot. We had a night shoot in a butcher store in Hollywood. I had about 25 male actors/models to do makeup for. It was a very straightforward shoot because we were going for camera-ready looks.

Being camera-ready means the products and techniques used to achieve the overall look are compatible with high quality cameras that photographers and videographers use. That means you will be HD compatible and as technology advances, makeup products and techniques advance as well. When I work as a TV commercial makeup artist in Los Angeles I always prepare my makeup kit with the essential products.

Camera-ready makeup isn’t concerning heavy coverage or too bright colors. It’s about understanding what the camera is going to see. It’s about proper tone, accentuation. Clean, moisturized skin is that the ideal palette to work on. The camera can pick up on dry or excessively oily skin very easily. Television cameras and bright lights will alter your appearance drastically and there’s no way around it makeup is essential. A primer will ensure that your foundation doesn’t sink into your skin.

Scotch Porter is more than just a brand; it’s a call to action. When Calvin Quallis left the comfort of his cushy desk job last year to pursue his dream of creating the ultimate men’s grooming line, he did so with the intent of making the most stylishly accessible products in the game. Scotch Porter is for the modern day man who wants to look his best at all times. Your first impression is your last impression, and while you rock your distressed denim, cashmere sweater and leather bag or even your suit and tie, we’ve got you covered on the rest. From head to toe.

Professional Makeup Artist in LA | Hollywood Shine Beauty Editorial

Professional Makeup Artist in LA | Hollywood Shine Beauty Editorial

As a professional makeup artist in LA, I was working with fashion model/influencer Kenzo Lauren on an editorial beauty shoot in Los Angeles. The fashion shoot entitled Hollywood Shine has been published by Dear Velvet on their online blog. We found Kenzo while I was looking for fashion models in the Los Angeles area. We arranged this photoshoot in several locations in Hollywood, Venice and Santa Monica, launching our first fashion photo collaboration.

Most importantly we were going for a high-end look on this shoot, inspired by the Oscars. From gold makeup to sparkling nails, the looks exuded Hollywood glamour. I managed Kenzo’s makeup and styling for this editorial. Eye makeup speaks volumes about your style and when done right, it has the power to be immensely transformative. So it did for Kenzo. I chose matching cocktail dresses to complete her look for this shoot.

As a makeup artist in LA, I always arrive at fashion shoots with a fully equipped kit of high-quality cosmetics in a wide variety of colors. Highlighter is the ultimate photo-ready secret. In this editorial, I used gold and silver glitter as well for eye shadow. A little glitter liner is a super fun way to add some sparkle to your look.

Dear Velvet is a diary of style, creativity, and wanderlust. We first connected in 2015 with the DV team and since then, they have published several amazing articles about my work as a professional makeup artist in LA.

From the founder of DV: “Art and fashion, writing, photography and sheer curiosity keep me up late, playing in the digital world and on the road in the real one.”
